DUSTIN JACOBY VS KHALIL ROUNTREE JR LOWDOWN
Dustin Jacoby (18-5-1) is quietly sneaking up the light heavyweight division. He is unbeaten in his last nine which include seven UFC bouts. The only blemish is a draw with Ion Cutelaba (2021) and he has gone on to knock out Darren Stewart (2021), earn unanimous decisions over John Allan (2021) and Michal Oleksiejczuk (2022) and is coming off a ‘Performance of the Night’ display with a beautiful first-round knockout over Da Un Jung.
A man accustomed to beautiful knockouts is Khalil Rountree Jr (10-5(1)). He has been a mixed bag in the UFC going 6-5(1). However, those wins include knockouts over Paul Craig (2017), Gokhan Saki (2018) and a three-round Muay Thai clinic on Eryk Anders (2019). He then looked limp in losses Cutelaba (2019) and Marcin Prachnio (2021) but looks back to his best with violent knockouts over Modestas Bukauskas (2021) and Karl Roberson back in March.
DUSTIN JACOBY VS KHALIL ROUNTREE JR PREDICTION
When Rountree is on, he looks like he could tear through anybody in the division. He has ferocious Muay Thai skills with a variety of explosive leg kicks and laser punches. So, this is fantastic matchmaking as Jacoby is an accomplished kickboxer.
We would be very surprised to see any grappling. If anyone is going to shoot for a takedown, it will be Jacoby, but we expect a bruising yet technical striking contest. Jacoby has more finesse whereas Rountree has the power so expect Jacoby to be patient and counter.
However, letting Rountree dictate the pace can be a death sentence. Once Rountree finds his rhythm, he will unload. He will blast the legs with kicks and is clearly not afraid to target the knee doing whatever it takes to cripple Jacoby – just ask Bukauskas.
It is tough to back against Jacoby right now and if the fight goes past two rounds you have to back his cardio to come out on top and earn a decision. However, if the possessed Rountree shows up, there will be another knockout for the underdog.
