DOO HO CHOI VS KYLE NELSON LOWDOWN
When Doo ho Choi (14-4) starched Thiago Tavares back in 2016, the Superboy was becoming a Superstar. He extended his win streak to 12 with his eighth knockout in a row with two ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses out of his three UFC fights. However, he has not won since. He has only fought three times with various injuries starving him from competition and he lost them all – Cub Swanson (2016 – unanimous decision), Jeremy Stephens – (2018 - TKO) and Charles Jourdain (2019 – TKO).
Kyle Nelson (13-6) has been slightly more active but is in poor form himself losing four of his last five. He got TKO’d by Carlos Diego Ferreira (2018) and submitted by Matt Sayles (2019) before knocking out Polo Reyes (2019). He is now coming off two more losses to Billy Quarantillo (2020 - knockout) and Jai Herbert (2022 – unanimous decision).
DOO HO CHOI VS KYLE NELSON PREDICTION
The inactivity is more of a worry than the losses for Choi as they were all against animals who were not far from their prime. This is a much kinder match-up and an appropriate one considering the time off.
Nelson is a good fighter and provides a compelling matchup. He has solid wrestling and quality jiu-jitsu, but he also loves to strike and we are hoping he decides to exchange leather.
It will be no surprise that Choi will look to stand and bang until somebody falls. If this stays on the feet, we are backing him despite the long layoff so this will depend on Nelson’s strategy.
If he is smart, he will try and take the fight to the floor and he has the grappling to threaten a submission and steal a couple rounds. However, Choi’s striking is at such a level that he does not need to be active to down UFC calibre fighters. We feel his speed and power will mark his comeback with a vintage dub.
