DON’TALE MAYES VS CAIO MACHADO LOWDOWN
Don’tale Mayes (10-6(1)) fights for the first time this year after an active 2023. He had mixed results first, losing a unanimous decision to Augusto Sakai who is no longer on the roster. He then picked up the biggest win of his career knocking out the 45-year-old Andre Arlovski. He then ran into Rodrigo Nascimento and got shut down in another unanimous decision loss to go 3-4(1) in the UFC.
Caio Machado (8-2-1) is also coming off a loss which was the first of his career. He quickly tore through the Battlefield Field League before outpointing Kevin Szaflarski (2023) on the Contender Series to earn the coveted UFC contract. He met Mick Parkin at UFC Fight Night 232 and fell on the wrong side of a unanimous decision this time.
DON’TALE MAYES VS CAIO MACHADO PREDICTION
There is a lot on the line for both fighters as Machado searches for his first UFC win and another loss for Mayes could be terminal to his UFC career.
Both fighters will be grateful to leave their defensive grappling behind and showcase their strengths which is their striking. Mayes is more powerful whereas Machado has the speed advantage.
Machado is also the more technical striker, but the worry is that he tends to keep his hands low and Mayes has the powerful to expose his defence. On paper, Machado should win this with his kicks and speed advantage. He also has better grappling to call upon should he need it, but this is very close to call.
