DAVID ONAMA VS GARRETT ARMFIELD LOWDOWN
David Onama (9-1) is relieved just to stay on the card after Austin Lingo pulled out this week and he does not want to waste any time in putting fuel back on the hype train. He was making a lot of noise before his debut protecting an unbeaten record, but Mason Jones welcomed him to the UFC last year serving him his first loss. He did step up to lightweight on short notice and made amends in February this year, moving back down to featherweight to knock out Gabriel Benitez in the first round.
Garrett Armfield (8-2) is the man bravely stepping up to take on the prospect. Only on Wednesday he was feeding goats in Missouri and now steps out under the bright lights for the biggest fight of his life. He is arriving to the APEX on a three-fight win streak picking up a submission over Alex Macias and split decision over Mark Slyter under the Shamrock FC banner last year. He then took just 33 seconds to knock out Steven Graham for the Fighting Alliance Championship back in May, but it remains to be seen whether he can hang with the big boys.
DAVID ONAMA VS GARRETT ARMFIELD PREDICTION
Onama is understandably a colossal favourite. That said, Armfield has some pedigree and only lost to good fighters including Ronnie Lawrence (2019) who is also on the card. He is a good striker with quick hands and killer instinct.
That said, he is taking on a different beast. Onama is the real deal and is a lot bigger than Armfield. He will boast a five-inch reach advantage and we expect him to leverage it in violent fashion. Armfield will be wise to close the distance and turn this into a grappling contest, but Onama should have the power to fend off any attempts.
We back Armfield to pick up some wins in the UFC, but this is just a terrible match up for him and has only had a few days to prepare. When the odds are this wide, a small punt is usually worth it, but it may be best to hold on to your pennies for this one.
