ABUS MAGOMEDOV VS WARLLEY ALVES LOWDOWN
Abus Magomedov (25-6-1) got thrown right into the deep end after his perfect UFC debut back in 2022. He front kicked Dustin Stoltzfus out of the first round to collect his 14th knockout. He then ran into Sean Strickland (2023) who humbled him and then went on to become the middleweight champion. It did not get much easier as he was then handed Caio Borralho (2023) who cruised a unanimous decision.
Warlley Alves (14-7) is struggling to stay afloat not having won a fight since the start of 2021. That was a ‘Performance of the Night’ display against Mounir Lazzez folding him with his trademarked body kicks. However, he has gone on to get knocked out by Jeremiah Wells (2021), lose a split decision to Nicolas Dalby (2023) and then get brutally knocked out again, this time by Ikram Aliskerov (2023) to slump to a UFC record of 8-7.
ABUS MAGOMEDOV VS WARLLEY ALVES PREDICTION
This is a much better match-up for Magomdeov. He should not have to worry about a relentless output or being on the receiving end of chain takedowns. He will hope Alves decides to stand and trade although he is capable of securing a takedown or two.
We expect the Brazilian to have the ego to find the knockout and he will be a threat in the first round. He will start by firing his thunderous kicks to the leg and body. He can cause serious damage, but Magomedov will love nothing more to stand and trade.
He has the technique and power combined with a six-inch reach advantage to overwhelm Alves. Expect him to try and pepper from range with his teep kicks setting up power punches.
If Alves can close the distance, make this ugly and even get the fight to the floor he can finish Magomedov or drain him in the third round. For that reason, he is worth a punt as the underdog, but we are backing Magomedov who has less miles on the clock.
Prediction: Magomedov via KO/TKO
Value Bet: Alves to win
