Mirra Andreeva will lock horns with Victoria Mboko in a titanic teenage battle in Doha.
The 18-year-old Russian stepped up a level at the end of the opening set before racing to a 7-6 6-1 victory over Magda Linette.
It confirms a second meeting with Mboko, 19, after Mirra claimed a 6-3 6-1 win over the Canadian in the final in Adelaide just last month.
It gives the tenth seed a quick chance to try and gain revenge and she warmed up for the clash by making it back-to-back straight sets triumphs in Qatar courtesy of a 6-4 6-4 success over Vera Zvonareva.
This promises to be much closer than that one-sided final Down Under with Mboko likely to be fired up to make amends for a nervy display which ultimately cost her.
As the fifth seed Andreeva will remain the favourite, but Mboko’s quality gives her a good shot at getting at least a set here.
