Mirra Andreeva vs Sonay Kartal prediction
Mirra Andreeva defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets to book her place in the round-of-16 of the China Open. The first set ebbed and flowed, with the Spaniard going an early break up, only to be pegged back by Andreeva. The Russian, who already has two WTA 1000 victories this season took the first set after breaking Bouzas Maneiro when she was serving to stay in it at 5-4 down. The first set was far more straight-forward for Andreeva as she didn’t even concede a break point as she won 6-4 6-1.
Sonay Kartal is her opponent in the next round after she produced yet another strong display to beat Maya Joint. The 19-year-old Australian headed into this one as the favourite but Kartal dominated the exchanges from the off, winning the first four games and wrapping up a 6-3 6-2 win after an hour and 12 minutes. Kartal has not dropped a set so far in Shanghai and is into the round-of-16 of a 1000 tournament for the second time, having achieved the feat in Indian Wells earlier this season.
Kartal will take so much confidence from her performances so far, but Andreeva is likely to be a step too far.
