Mirra Andreeva did not end the season strongly but still enjoyed a fine year in 2025, reaching a high of five in the world during last summer. There were some big titles as the Russian won two WTA 1000 tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells. She also got through to two Grand Slam quarter-finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
She goes up against Olivia Gadecki in her first match of 2026. Gadecki pulled off a surprise in round one as she defeated Ann Li. The world number 204 was 3-1 down in the first set but recovered well to win 6-4 6-4 after one hour and 39 minutes. She saved eight break points during the match.
Andreeva will be the heavy favourite to win as she searches for a first title of the year ahead of the Australian Open later this month. She will be hoping to get off to a confident start with a victory against Gadecki.
