Mirra Andreeva vs McCartney Kessler prediction

This is not an easy start to her Canadian Open campaign for Mirra Andreeva as she plays her opening match after receiving a walkover in the second round. Opponent Bianca Andreescu was forced to pull out so Andreeva will have to hit the ground running now against a tough opponent.

She faces 28-seed McCartney Kessler who will pose a tough challenge for the young Russian star.

Kessler overcame Maya Joint in her opening match but only after losing the first set and being forced to come from behind. Kessler will have to improve significantly if she is to trouble Andreeva but it is reasonable to expect her to be much more focused against such a high-profile opponent.

Andreeva is relentless and she returns after a short break after Wimbledon. We think that will serve her well and while it may take a little time to get going, we expect her to have too much for Kessler and we favour her to progress.
