Mirra Andreeva began her Canadian Open in dominant fashion as she thrashed Karolina Pliskova to book her place in the third-round. This was Andreeva’s first match since her early exit at Wimbledon, and the Roland Garros champion wasted no time, winning 6-0 6-2 against the former world number one. She now has a 37-11 win-loss record in 2026, and leads the Race to the WTA Finals.

Her next opponent is Leylah Fernandez. The home favourite set up a meeting with Andreeva after a straight sets win over Renata Zarazua in the second-round. Zarazua had reached the semi-finals in Memphis last week and had won four of her last five matches, but Fernandez was always in control as she wrapped up a 6-2 6-2 victory.

Andreeva leads the head-to-head 2-1. Their most recent meeting was at the quarter-final stage of this year’s Madrid Open, with the Russian winning in straight sets. Fernandez will have plenty of support on her side, but Andreeva seems refreshed after some time away and is the firm favourite.
