Mirra Andreeva vs Karolina Pliskova prediction
Mirra Andreeva suffered an early exit at Wimbledon, losing to two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova. The Russian was a set up but ended up losing in three, and she has not featured on the tour since that loss. Nevertheless, it’s still been an incredible year for Andreeva as she won her first major title at Roland Garros in June, and she is now up to number five in the world, her highest ever ranking. The 19-year-old will hope for a strong start to the North American hard court swing.
She received a bye in round one and will now face Karolina Pliskova after she beat Oleksandra Oliynykova in straight sets. The former world number one was an early break down in the second but recovered to win 6-4 6-4. She is a former finalist at the event, reaching that stage in 2021.
These two met at the Cincinnati Open two years ago, with a 17-year-old Andreeva easily winning in straight sets. Pliskova seems to be showing some encouraging signs after a number of injury setbacks, and this could be a more competitive encounter between the pair this time around, though Andreeva is still a commanding favourite.
