Miomir Kecmanovic ended his five match losing run in the last round as he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets. Both players exchanged breaks in the first two service games of the match, with the Serb also breaking right at the end of the first to take the lead. Kecmanovic was always in front in the breaker, wrapping up a hard-fought 6-4 7-6 win.
He now goes up against Luciano Darderi after the Italian notched just his second win on outdoor hard court this season against Mackenzie McDonald. Darderi missed the chance to seal the match in straight sets, as McDonald saved a match point in the second set tiebreak and won three straight points to draw level. An engrossing decider saw the Italian squander a 4-1 lead, only to break McDonald again as he served to stay in the match to win 7-6 6-7 6-4.
The head-to-head is locked at 1-1 but Kecmanovic leads 1-0 on hard court. He comfortably defeated Darderi in straight sets at the start of the year in Hong Kong. He’s possesses a stronger record than Darderi on this surface and we expect him to get the win here too.
