Miomir Kecmanovic had a productive week in Winston-Salem in the lead up to the final slam of the year as he made the quarter-finals. He defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic and Luciano Darderi to make the last eight but was uncompetitive against a returning Sebastian Korda. Kecmanovic also has a title on a hard court this season on the ATP Tour, after his victory at the Delray Beach Open in March.
Joao Fonseca is ranked just one place above Kecmanovic at 44 in the world. The Brazilian teenager was on the end of a surprising defeat in Toronto to Tristan Schookate in round one, though he did fare slightly better in Cincinnati as he reached the third-round.
Both players are evenly matched, with Kecmanovic managing to get a few wins together ahead of the event and Fonseca performing admirably in majors at such a tender age already this year. This is most likely going to be decided in four or five sets.
