Michael Zheng continued his impressive run at the Cincinnati Open as he beat Ugo Humbert in straight sets. The American, who had to qualify for the event and came from a set down to beat Fabian Marozsan in the first-round, was not broken on serve and conceded just one break point as he won 6-4 6-3.
He will now play Lorenzo Musetti. The two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist began his campaign with a win over Daniel Altmaier. Musetti did commit five double faults, but he was never in any danger against the German as he won 6-4 6-2. The Italian made his return from injury at the end of July, and he is looking to generate further momentum ahead of the US Open at the end of this month.
Musetti’s experience and greater variety make him the deserved favourite, but Zheng’s Cincinnati run makes this a dangerous assignment. The American is playing freely and should benefit from the fast conditions with his aggressive game.
