Michael van Gerwen made an excellent start to the 2026 Premier League, winning the first night in Newcastle before also reaching the final in Antwerp a week later.

However, an unspecified illness forced the Dutchman to miss last week's event in Glasgow, and he was subsequently absent from the Poland Darts Open and the Players Championship double-header in Leicester.

All signs point towards MVG returning to action in Belfast, but it remains to be seen how much of a hindrance his recent bout of illness will be to his performance levels.

Medical reasons also caused Gerwyn Price to pull out of the action in Poland over the weekend, but the Welshman entered both events in Leicester this week and claimed glory at Players Championship 6 just 24 hours before this contest - his first PDC ranking title of 2026.

The Iceman, who claimed the nightly victory in Antwerp on the second week of Premier League action, seems the safer player to back here, given the uncertainty around Van Gerwen's fitness.
