Two-time Houston quarter-finalist Michael Mmoh continues on the comeback trail after a nine-month injury nightmare cut short his 2024 campaign.
The American wildcard is currently ranked at 287 in the world, but it is perhaps a false indicator of his level as he builds more match fitness following an elbow injury sustained last April.
Mmoh has enjoyed decent runs to the last 16 of a couple of Challenger tournaments as well as at Delray Beach and Dallas, but he has struggled more recently with qualifying defeats at Indian Wells and Miami.
Notably, Aussie world number 89, Weston was the man who ended his hopes at Indian Wells by claiming a 6-4 2-6 6-1 win in Q2 before being comfortably beaten by Denis Shapovalov in the second round.
Last time out, Walton took advantage of reaching the main draw as a lucky loser and fought his way to the last 16 in Miami where he was beaten 6-3 7-5 by world number four Taylor Fritz.
Mmoh will be aiming for a quick revenge for his loss to the Aussie in the desert and will hope his familiarity with the courts at Houston on his fifth visit to the tournament can help him reach the second round.
