Mia Pohankova vs Xiyu Wang prediction

Mia Pohankova picked up her first ever WTA 1000 main draw victory after easily beating Anna Bondar in the first-round of the Wuhan Open. The Slovakian wildcard, who won the Wimbledon junior title in 2025, won 6-1 6-3. The result was the 17-year-old’s sixth top 100 win of her career, and her fifth this year. She has also reached the semi-finals of her last two lower-level tournaments.

She will now play Xiyu Wang, after the Chinese player defeated compatriot Xinyu Wang. The 25-year-old was in complete control, winning 6-2 6-0 after an hour and eight minutes. She has advanced to the round-of-16 at Roland Garros and Cincinnati this season, despite needing to qualify for both events. She has 10 wins from 15 hard court matches in 2026.

Pohankova clearly has plenty of potential, but Wang has been able to perform against higher-level opposition during the campaign. The latter will be viewed as the favourite to win on home soil.
