Mia Pohankova vs Maria Sakkari prediction

Mia Pohankova continued her excellent run at the Wuhan Open with a three set win over Xiyu Wang. The Slovakian took the lead in the first set after winning a tiebreak and was just two points away from victory after opening up a 5-2 lead in the second breaker. Wang would fight back and level, but the 17-year-old went on to win 7-6 (2) 6-7 (7) 6-1 after two hours and 55 minutes. She is through to the third-round of a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career.

She now faces Maria Sakkari. The Greek fought back from a set down to beat Marta Kostyuk. Sakkari won 4-6 6-2 6-2. This was her third victory over a top 10 opponent this season – the most she has achieved in a single year since 2023. She also now leads Kostyuk 3-2 in the head-to-head.

Pohankova has performed brilliantly to advance to this stage, but this is a fantastic opportunity for Sakkari to make another deep run at an important event.
