Mccartney Kessler ended Katie Boulter’s two-year reign in Nottingham to move within one win of the title match.

The American, who also beat top seed Beatriz Haddad Maia earlier this week, outgunned the Brit 6-3 3-6 6-4 to disappoint the home support.

The American will now meet Rebecca Sramkova, who hit back from a set down to defeat seventh seed Linda Noskova 3-6 6-4 6-4.

This will be their third meeting this year with honours even so far.

Sramkova eased to a 6-3 6-3 success on clay in Rome while Kessler prevailed 6-3 7-5 on hard in Hobert.

There is little between them in ranking with the Slovakian just four places better off at 38 on the WTA ladder.

If Kessler produces the same sort of tennis that helped her oust Boulter and Haddad Maia, she’s our pick but don’t be surprised if this is a tight one to call with the winner of the first set likely to triumph.
