McCartney Kessler is coming off a stunning straight-sets win over Mirra Andreeva and the 26-year-old American will be full of confidence after that upset.
Kessler has now reached the round of 16 in a WTA 1000 event for the very first time and she will be looking to continue this fine run as she now faces Marta Kostyuk.
The Ukrainian is coming off an excellent win over Daria Kasatkina as she showed great grit and determination to come back from a set down and win 3-6 6-3 7-6.
The quality was not always the best in that match but she came up clutch when it mattered most to grind out the win.
Interestingly the pair have met once before at last year’s US Open. Kostyuk eased to a 6-2 6-3 win on that occasion but Kessler has improved notably since then.
Kessler is flying at the moment and we like her chances in this one. She is the underdog but she will arguably be fresher than Kostyuk and she can follow up the win over Andreeva with another upset here.
