McCartney Kessler comes into this tournament in promising shape. Indeed it was only just over two months ago since she won her first WTA singles title in Nottingham, albeit that came on the grass court. More recently though on hard court, Kessler notably got the better of Mirra Andreeva at the Canadian Open on her way to the round of 16.
Magda Linette recently took down a big-name player from the USA in Jessica Pegula at the Cincinnati Open, a notable reminder as to what she can do when at her best. It’s also worth noting that Linette has won each of her last two singles matches against American players, having beaten Danielle Collins in Washington D.C. just over a month ago.
The last time these two players locked horns, Kessler won out in straight sets, although it was a close contest late last year, finishing 6-4, 6-4 in Brisbane. Expect another tight encounter here, but back the same outcome.
