Maya Joint decided to drop down and compete on the Challenger Tour at the Makarska Open after her early first-round loss at the French Open. The Australian entered as the top seed but could only reach the last four before losing in three sets. She then made the transition to grass last week but failed to get out of the qualifying stages for the Nottingham Open after a three set defeat to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Joint is still riding high after her first WTA Tour title in Morocco last month but is yet to make an impact on grass in her young career.
Ons Jabeur enjoyed an encouraging start to her grass court season as she made a run from qualifying all the way to the quarter-finals of the German Open. She defeated Jasmine Paolini in the round-of-16 but then came unstuck against Marketa Vondrousova in a rematch of the 2023 Wimbledon final. Jabeur has struggled with form and injuries this season but is a classy operator on the grass and should be fancied to come out on top against Joint.
