Maya Joint vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction
Maya Joint continued her resurgence at the Canadian Open as she produced a fine display to defeat Sorana Cirstea in straight sets and reach the third-round of a WTA event for the first time this season. The Australian was 3-1 down at the start of the match but reeled off four games in a row to take control. She maintained her level in the second to win 6-4 6-4. Joint has now won three matches in a row, including qualifying.
Her next opponent is Liudmila Samsonova. She also earned a fine win in round two as she got past two-time Grand Slam singles champion Barbora Krejcikova. Samsonova dominated the first set to take the lead and recovered from a 4-1 deficit in the second to win 6-1 7-5 after one hour and 37 minutes.
Samsonova leads the head-to-head 1-0 after beating Joint at the first-round stage of Wimbledon last year. Both players performed well in the previous round, but the higher ranked Samsonova is the favourite to advance.
