Matteo Berrettini vs Lorenzo Musetti prediction

Matteo Berrettini has his eyes on a maiden quarter-final at the Monte-Carlo Masters after the biggest win of his career by ATP ranking.

The Italian defeated Alexander Zverev 2-6 6-3 7-5 in what proved to be a rollercoaster tussle with the world number two.

Berrettini now meets compatriot Lorenzo Musetti after the 13th seed came from a set down for the second time at the tournament to beat big-hitting Czech Jiri Lehecka.

This will be the third time Berrettini has faced off with Musetti with the match-up intriguingly poised at 1-1.

Berrettini romped to a 6-4 6-0 semi-final win on the grass at Stuttgart last year while Musetti won 7-6 6-2 to lift the Naples title on a hard court back in 2022.

The fact Berrettini has now won 17 of his last 18 matches on clay will give him great confidence heading into their first clash on the dirt and he will no doubt feel he has the power to break down the 13th seed’s one-handed backhand.

Musetti will need his slice to be highly effective to neutralise his opponent’s big-serve, heavy forehand combination and we feel he may have too many miles in the legs to cope with the world number 34’s incessant aggression.
