Matteo Berrettini will compete in his first match in six weeks in the first-round of Wimbledon. He has not played since retiring halfway through his match with Casper Ruud at the Italian Open in the middle of May. The Italian has struggled with injuries throughout this season so far. He decided not to play in any of the grass court events leading up to this major, including Queen’s Club, where he has won on two consecutive occasions.
Kamil Majchrzak was unable to win a match in any of the three grass court tournaments he competed in. The Pole lost in the first-round of the Challenger Tour events in Birmingham and Ilkley, while he failed to make it out of the first stage of qualifying for Eastbourne.
Berrettini has not played for a while but that may be to his advantage in terms of feeling fresh and being free of any lingering niggles.
