Matteo Berrettini reached the third-round of the French Open after a dominant win over Arthur Rinderknech. The Italian, who is competing at Roland Garros for the first time since 2021, won 85% of his first serve points and conceded just three break points as he won 6-4 6-4 6-4 after two hours and 17 minutes.
He faces Francisco Comesana. The Argentine outlasted Luciano Darderi in five sets to book a meeting with Berrettini. Comesana had not reached the third-round of an event this season, but he managed to do so at a major after a 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-4 2-6 6-4 win. Darderi had reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open earlier this month, but he was broken in the ninth game of the fifth set, with Comesana successfully serving it out.
Comesana can be a dangerous player on clay, but if Berrettini is fully fit and firing, he has a brilliant opportunity to make it through to the round-of-16.
