Matteo Berrettini vs Brandon Nakashima prediction

Matteo Berrettini began his Shanghai Masters campaign with a comeback win over Aleksandar Kovacevic in round one. The Italian dropped the first set on a tiebreak but came back to win 6-7 (3) 6-1 6-4. Despite requiring three sets, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist did not concede a break point opportunity across the entire match. He also won 91% of his first serve points. Berrettini advanced to the semi-finals of this event in 2019.

He will face Brandon Nakashima in the next round. The American suffered a first-round exit at the Japan Open after a straight sets defeat to Ugo Humbert last week. Nakashima’s recent form has not been quite as strong, following a North American summer swing which included his first ever Masters 1000 final at the Canadian Open.

Nakashima has been pretty consistent this season and is the favourite to win, but Berrettini should be able to remain competitive if he serves well.
