Matteo Arnaldi vs Taylor Fritz prediction

Matteo Arnadli easily got past Bernard Tomic in the first-round of the Shanghai Masters. Tomic was competing in his first Masters 1000 main draw match since 2019, but he was never in the contest as Arnaldi won 6-3 6-1. The Italian advanced to round two of the Japan Open last week, losing to top seed and eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

He will now face Taylor Fritz. The American suffered an early defeat in Tokyo last time out, losing in round one to Jaume Munar in three sets. Fritz has struggled with a knee injury this season, but there have still been highlights, such as his run to the title at the Washington Open right at the start of August. He is currently 12th in the Race to Turin, and a strong run here would significantly improve his chances of qualifying for the year end tournament. 

The head-to-head is locked at 1-1. Arnaldi won their first meeting in Acapulco two years, with Fritz winning in Washington a year later. The 2024 US Open finalist still has the weapons to overpower the Italian on this relatively fast surface.
