Matteo Arnaldi enjoyed a resurgence during the clay court season, as he won a Challenger event and beat a top-10 player in Alex de Minaur at the Italian Open on his way to the third-round. He then produced a marvellous showing at Roland Garros as he went all the way to his first Grand Slam semi-final, though he was forced to withdraw from the tournament before his match with Flavio Cobolli due to illness. Arnaldi has yet to establish himself on grass, and he was beaten in the opening round at Eastbourne after getting into the draw as a lucky loser.
Quentin Halys was another lucky loser at Eastbourne, but he did win his opening match to set up a meeting with Ugo Humbert. Halys had won their encounter at Roland Garros in May, but Humbert dominated the match to win in straight sets.
Haly does possesses the greater weapons on grass, and Arnaldi could very much be vulnerable in this first-round encounter.
