Stoiana beat Harmony Tan in straight sets and then outlasted Katie Swan and Yue Yuan to come through back-to-back three setters. She reached a career high of 122 in the rankings just last week, and she can now look forward to a first-round match against Alexandra Eala. 

Eala won her first WTA tour title right at the start of the month, as she came from a set down to beat Jessica Pegula in a rain-interrupted Washington Open final. The 21-year-old produced a remarkable run, also beating Leylah Fernandez, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka. She backed that up with a round-of-16 appearance at the Canadian Open, and she has now moved up into the top 20 for the first time in her career.

It’s difficult to look past Eala winning this one comfortably, and she is likely to receive incredible support in her first-round match.
