Marton Fucsovics advanced to the second-round after his opponent Luca Van Assche was forced to retire. The Hungarian was leading 6-3 4-0 at the time. Fucsovics, who reached the quarter-finals in 2021, is now looking to reach the third-round of an event for just the second time this season, having achieved the feat at Indian Wells in March.
He will play Learner Tien. The 20-year-old progressed to round two at the All England Club for the second straight year after a four set win over Dalibor Svrcina. Tien looked on course for an easy win as he won four games in a row from 3-1 down in the third set to serve for the match. However, Svrcina broke back and extended the contest after winning the tiebreak. Nevertheless, the 2026 Australian Open quarter-finalist regrouped to win 6-1 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-3.
Fucsovics has the experience and grass court pedigree to make life difficult for Tien, but the youngster’s consistency and outstanding returning should allow him to gradually take control.
