Marton Fucsovics progressed in Doha after a straight sets win over Hady Habib. The Hungarian was broken in his very service game but gave up just two break points after that as he won 6-3 6-3 after one hour and 10 minutes.
He plays Karen Khachanov next. The Russian, who won this event two years ago, was made to work for his victory against Shintaro Mochizuki. He made a brilliant start to the match as he broke on three occasions to comfortably take the first set. Mochizuki hit back with an early break as he went on to win the second. The Japanese looked on course for a surprising win as he broke to go 3-2 up, but Khachanov won four of the next five games to seal a 6-1 3-6 6-4 victory.
This is the first match between the pair since 2019, and the head-to-head currently stands at 1-1. Khachanov has a brilliant opportunity to make the quarter-finals of an event for the first time since last August, and he will be expected to do so.
