Marta Kostyuk vs Sloane Stephens prediction

Marta Kostyuk made a confident start to her US Open campaign, beating qualifier Storm Hunter 6-4 6-1 in just an hour and seven minutes. The Ukrainian has been one of the most consistent Grand Slam performers, reaching the semi-finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Her hard court preparation was also encouraging, with a run to the Cincinnati Open quarter-finals, before a loss to eventual winner Coco Gauff.

She faces Sloane Stephens next. The 2017 US Open champion produced arguably her best result of the season as she got past Clara Tauson in straight sets. She won 79% of her first serve points and struck 19 aces against only 10 unforced errors, winning 6-4 6-1. This was her first Grand Slam main draw victory since Wimbledon 2024.

They faced each other only last month in Cincinnati, with Kostyuk winning 7-5 7-5, though Stephens did go a break up in both sets. The American showed enough against Tauson to suggest that this will be a competitive match.
