Marta Kostyuk overcame a slow start to beat Katherine Sebov in straight sets and progress to round three in Toronto. This was the Ukrainian’s first match since her run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon last month, and she found herself 4-1 down at the start of the match, with Sebov also serving for the set at 5-4 up. Nevertheless, Kostyuk would fight back and take the set on a tiebreak, before racing clear in the second to win 7-6 (4) 6-0.

Keys leads the head-to-head 2-0 after back-to-back third-round wins at Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, but this will be their first match against each other on a hard court.
