Marta Kostyuk vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction

Marta Kostyuk was handed a walkover in the previous round, as her opponent Taylor Townsend withdrew from the tournament due to illness. The Ukrainian’s last event was at the US Open, where she reached the round-of-16 before losing to Linda Noskova in three tight sets. Kostyuk is now at her highest ranking of 10 in the world, and she will be hoping to qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. 

The top seed now faces Liudmila Samsonova. The 27-year-old progressed to her fourth quarter-final of 2026 after edging past Kayla Day. Samsonova opened up a 4-0 lead in the deciding set, but relinquished control as Day reeled off five games in a row. She would force a tiebreak, with Samsonova holding her nerve to complete a 7-6 (4) 2-6 7-6 (5) win.

Samsonova does lead the WTA head-to-head 2-0, but they have not faced each other since 2023. Kostyuk is yet to experience the high-altitude conditions in a competitive setting, and that could contribute to a slow start. However, she has enjoyed the far better season and will still be expected to come out on top.
