Marta Kostyuk vs Jessica Pegula prediction
Marta Kostyuk continued her recent strong form with a straight sets victory over Aliaksandra Sasnovich to get through to the round-of-16 of the China Open. Kostyuk wasn’t broken on serve but still had to fend off 11 break point opportunities, saving all of them, as she won 6-4 6-2 after an hour and 24 minutes.
She will now face 2024 US Open finalist Jessica Pegula in the next round. Pegula came back from the brink to defeat Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu. Raducanu looked set to wrap up the win in the second set tiebreak as she raced to a 5-2 lead and had three match points, but the American saved all of them to force a decider. The Briton faded in the third and Pegula came through to win 3-6 7-6 6-0.
Pegula leads the head-to-head 3-1 and all their matches have been on hard court. They played at this stage of the Miami Open earlier this year, with Pegula coming through to win 6-2 6-3. We think this will be closer, given the Ukrainian’s recent results, but Pegula is such a gritty competitor and may find a way to grind this one out.
