Marta Kostyuk vs Ekaterina Alexandrova prediction

Marta Kostyuk continued her excellent Grand Slam season as she beat 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in straight sets to reach the third-round at Flushing Meadows. The Ukrainian dominated the opening set before facing considerably greater resistance in the second, even having to save a set point at 5-4 down. Kostyuk responded by breaking in the following game and closing out victory in just under 90 minutes to win 6-1 7-5. She struck eight aces, won 78% of her first serve points and converted four of 10 break opportunities. Kostyuk had opened the tournament by comfortably beating Australian qualifier Storm Hunter 6-4 6-1.

She now plays Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Russian was pushed much harder in round two by Kimberly Birrell, eventually winning 6-1 2-6 6-3. The 18th seed lost control during a one-sided second set but recovered well to win the decider. Alexandrova began her US Open campaign in far more straight-forward fashion, easily beating McCartney Kessler in straight sets.

Alexandrova has won their only previous meeting, but that was back in 2022. Kostyuk had developed considerably since then, and enters the match with a superb 35-8 win-loss record this season.
