Marketa Vondrousova vs Jessica Pegula prediction

Jessica Pegula faces a tricky clash with the unpredictable Marketa Vondrousova in the third round in Paris.

The American met the Czech in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in their only previous showdown, where Vondrousova won 6-4 2-6 6-4 on her way to lifting the SW19 title in 2023.

The world number 96 defeated 25th seed Magdalena Frech last time out and if she continues to hit her stride she is more than capable of beating anyone on this surface having reached the final in 2019.

Pegula dug deep to edge fellow American Ann Li 6-3 7-6 in the second round and the third seed clearly has more long-term form than Vondrousova coming into this showdown.

However, the Czech is showing signs of the purple-patch level that saw her become a Grand Slam champion two years ago and she may well have more variety and power than J-Peg, making her decent bet to pull off the shock.
