Mark Lajal qualified for the Stockholm Open after coming from a set down to beat Ethan Quinn in the final stage. Despite failing to make the US Open main draw in August, his form over the past few months has been solid. He got through to the quarter-finals of a Challenger in Cassis, before making the semi-finals of both St Tropez and New Orlenas during September.
He will go up against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The Argentine has not competed since having to retire in the quarter-finals of the Hangzhou Open against Corentin Moutet. He had taken the first set and looked on course for the last four, but an abdomen problem curtailed his progress at the tournament. That was a big disappointment for Etcheverry, having already achieved his best hard court result of the season at the event, but he will be raring to go after some time away.
Etcheverry is the favourite to get through, but Lajal does have the weapons to make this an interesting encounter.
