Marie Bozukova produced a decent showing in Montreal as she defeated world number 20 Diana Shnaider to make it into the third-round. Despite her greater pedigree and a storming start, she would lose to young Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, who went on to win the whole tournament. She did require a medical timeout during the match due to a thigh injury and chose not to compete in Cincinnati. Nevertheless, Bouzkova is performing well and has seven wins from her last eight matches, having won her home event in Prague in late July.
Zeynep Sonmez has not featured since losing in the second-round of the Polish Open at the end of last month. The Turk did make the third-round of a slam for the first time at Wimbledon just a few weeks earlier, but her record this season isn’t particularly inspiring. She has a negative win-loss record on outdoor hard court and her best result of the campaign occurred all the way back in February at the Merida Open, where she reached the last eight.
As long as Bouzkova is fit and raring to go, she’ll be a commanding favourite against Sonmez and a straight sets win in her favour holds strong value.
