Marie Bouzkova vs Elise Mertens prediction
Marie Bouzkova is yet to get past the second-round of any tournament that she’s competed in so far this year. She lost to Iga Swiatek in round two of the Australian Open last month and following that up with a straight sets loss in the first-round of the Qatar Open to Victoria Mboko. She impressed last season, with a win at her home tournament in Prague being the highlight, and Bouzkova will hope for an upturn this week in Dubai.
She has a tough task as she faces Elise Mertens in the first-round. The Belgian achieved her joint-best result in Melbourne since her semi-final appearance in 2018 as she got through to the round-of-16 before a loss to eventual champion Elena Rybakina. She competed in Doha but lost in the second-round to Daria Kasatkina.
This should be a competitive match but if Mertens can take the initiative in the early stages and control the depth of the exchanges, she may just have the edge.
