Marie Bouzkova came from a set to down to beat Zeynep Sonmez in the first-round of the Monterrey Open. The Czech player struggled at times, going 3-0 down in the first and also falling behind by an early break in the decider, but she responded well and kept creating opportunities on Sonmez’s serve to win 3-6 6-2 6-4. Bouzkova won the Prague Open last month and is heading in the right direction ahead of the US Open.
Beatriz Haddad Maia, by contrast, is struggling to find the right results. She is currently on a three match losing streak and was dumped out of the Cincinnati Open by Maya Joint in the second-round, her last event.
