Mariano Navone vs Pablo Carreno Busta prediction

Mariano Navone was not able to make a deep run in Beijing, losing in the first-round to Alex de Minaur in straight sets. The first set went to a tiebreak, with De Minaur edging past the Argentine and racing clear in the second to win 7-6 6-2. Navone shone at the US Open, defeating 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the first-round and then beating Matteo Berrettini, before a loss to compatriot Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Navone won his first tour-level title in Bucharest this season, along with another final in Geneva.

Pablo Carreno Busta is his first-round opponent in Shanghai. The 35-year-old qualified for the China Open last time out but then lost his opening match in the main draw against former world number one Daniil Medvedev. Carreno Busta’s most impressive result of the campaign was a run to the round-of-16 at Roland Garros, where he lost to compatriot Rafael Jodar in five sets.

Navone has improved on hard courts this season, but Carreno Busta remains a tough competitor on this surface.
