Mariano Navone managed to get past Czech Vit Kopriva in the first round after losing the first set but levelling things and then having a 3-1 lead in the final set before Kopriva had to pull up due to injury. Navone were beaten by Francisco Cerundolo in the first round in Rio Open.
Luciano Darderi comes into this one on the back of losing to Jose Manuel Cerundolo in the first round in Rio de Janeiro. The Italian had previously reached the final against Francisco Cerundolo at the Argentina Open earlier this month and had a strong Australian Open before a fourth round exit to compatriot Jannik Sinner.
Darderi has to be viewed as the favourite here but his underwhelming stint in Rio last week may give Navone confidence he can at least make things awkward.
