Mariam Bolkvadze vs Ekaterina Alexandrova prediction
Mariam Bolkvadze enters the main draw as a lucky loser after she was defeated by Harmony Tan in the second qualifying stage. She also lost in the qualifiers for the Birmingham Classic last week and hasn’t made a particularly strong start to her grass court season.
She takes on second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in round one. Alexandrova had a pretty strong tournament at Roland Garros as she won her first three matches without the drop of a set. She faced Coco Gauff in round four and despite a poor start, pushed the American all the way in the second set. She lost 6-0 7-5 with Gauff going on to win the tournament.
Alexandrova is a two-time winner of the event after successes in 2022 and 2023. She will rightly be regarded as one of the favourites for the title and she’s good value to breeze through this first-round encounter and comfortably make it through.
