Maria Sakkari comes into this one on the back of a disappointing performance at the Nottingham Open as the sixth seed, going out after three sets in the first round against Qinwen Zheng. She has lost both of her matches since reaching the third round and taking the lead against eventual runner-up Maja Chwalinska at the French Open.
Clara Tauson is the number 24 seed at Wimbledon and she will expect to go deep here. She did reach the quarter-finals before being beaten by eventual winner Karolina Muchova. She was beaten by Daria Snigur in the first round of the French Open last month.
Tauson’s best performance at a Grand Slam is reaching the second round at Wimbledon last year, equalled at the Australian Open earlier this year. The 23-year-old Dane will be a tough test for Sakkari and may well have the endurance to defeat her.
