In the first round, Maria Kostyuk put in an impressive performance to hammer Oksana Selekhmeteva in just 17 games. Kostyuk has enjoyed an extremely strong clay season thus far, having won an Indoor competition in Rouen before romping to the Madrid Open title with a straight sets defeat of Mirra Andreeva in the final.
Katie Volynets has made it to the second round with a similarly emphatic opening round victory as they defeated wildcard entrant Clara Burel in the first round, with Volynets winning 6-3, 6-1.
Despite that strong win against Burel the other day, this does appear to be a bit of a mis-match with Kostyuk looking to go very far in the French capital city.
