Marcos Giron will hope to end a three match losing run with a victory here in Athens. His indoor swing has seen him lose in the second-round of the European Open to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and then exit in round one of the Swiss Indoors and Paris Masters to Denis Shapovalov and Daniel Altmaier respectively. The American has been on the end of some tight defeats, but the loss to Altmaier was more troubling, as Giron struggled to gain a foothold in the match. He’s still been consistent on the tour this season, with five ATP quarter-finals in total, but he hasn’t gone beyond that stage in 2025.
Pedro Martinez is in dismal form and has lost his last six matches. His last victory came at the Davis Cup and it was arguably his best display of the season as he beat Holger Rune in a crucial singles match for Spain against Denmark. Apart from that, Martinez’s second half of the season has been truly awful in terms of results, and he’s not won back-to-back matches at a tournament since Wimbledon.
Giron has a great opportunity to end his losing run against Martinez, who is likely to struggle indoors.
