Marcos Giron vs Mattia Bellucci prediction

Marcos Giron will hope for another strong European Open campaign this time, having made the semi-finals last year. He will need to improve his form if that is to happen, with the American losing on his last three outings. His Asian swing began in positive fashion as he got through to the quarter-finals in Chengdu, but he failed to make it out of the first-round in Tokyo and Shanghai. Giron also struggled for form during this summer, but it’s still been a encouraging season with five last eight finishes, along with making the round-of-16 at Indian Wells.

Mattia Bellucci is his opponent in the first-round. The Italian failed to qualify for Tokyo and then lost to Tomas Machac in the second-round of the Shanghai Masters after beating Adam Walton in round one. Bellucci achieved his best ATP result of the season indoors in February as he reached the semi-finals at the Rotterdam Open after getting through qualifying. This included impressive wins over Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Giron is the higher ranked player and could be viewed as a slight favourite, but Bellucci’s precise game style combines well with the indoor conditions, evidenced by his run in Rotterdam earlier this season.
