Maja Chwalinska got through to the next stage in Cluj-Napoca with a first-round win over Ana Bogdan. She went an early break down but found her level to win five games in a row and secure the first set. She raced clear in the second to win 6-3 6-2 after one hour and 31 minutes.
She now takes on Olga Danilovic. The Serb beat Miriam Bianca Bulgaru in straight sets to get through to the round-of-16. She was pegged back on two occasions in the first set but broke for a third time in order to go in front. She broke three more times in the second to win 6-4 6-3.
Chwalinska leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a surprise win over Danilovic at the Iasi Open in 2022. She does have some momentum after three straight wins, including qualifying, and Danilovic did not look particularly convincing in her previous match. She could take this into three sets.
